Im Namen Der Freundschaft

BY: Purna Adhiyasa Supriadi

Once upon a time, there were two men from different generation who spent their three days in a small room and shared everything they can. The older one was about 60 and the young were about 20. They knew each other for almost one year from a chat engine. The older has several days to spend as his holiday and he ask the young to let him stay for couple days. Then the older made a short of trip to visit the young who lived in a different city.

The older one has several stories of his experiences when he was study in German. And the young one was used to be a good listener. But fortunately both of then are open minded person, and can understand each other. They talked a lot of things with cups of coffee and some cigarettes. They shared a lot about how to face this life with braveness and power of life.

Im Namen Der Freundschaft means In the name of friendship. Because that was the based of these two man from different generation’s relationship. And the younger want to show him such an interest in German Language.

And now the story begins …..........

“Now I’m in Pertigaan Angkrek”, someone spoken on the phone.

“I’ll be there soon” and the other one speaks too.

Then it was the first times for both of them met each other for almost one year knew each other but haven’t met yet.

And it was the first time for the younger had such feeling.

“HAPPINESS”

Then they walked trough the passage which looks like a labyrinth. After a few minutes, they arrived in a small boarding house and directly got into the young’s room, a small room with a bathroom inside. The older took a bath first, drank a glass of coffee, smoke a cigarette, and he began telling his stories. He talked a lot while the younger was trying to listen and tried to communicate with a little nervous feeling inside him. He gave attention to what the older said and keep listened carefully. They talked a lot about some people they know in their part of life, and continued to other topic. It’s almost 3. 00 Am. when they finished their talk about education also the way to manage pupils in the classroom. .And then they decided to close their conversation and took some rest.

In the next day, they woke up early, took a bath, and walked around to find a place for breakfast. They found a small restaurant which sold such Indonesian traditional food. The restaurant was simple, but has a quite nice foods and great scenery with rice field around. They spoke a lot about law, politics, and also the nature they have ever seen. The older talked about his journey to somewhere when he was at my age and got lost with his friend within him. And he still remembered that journey until his age was much changed. Then the younger took the older to his friend’s boarding house. And they welcomed very well there. Three of them were talking in English as much as they can. Both the younger and his fiend felt so proud because they could meet him and practice their English with him. Then they left the younger

friend’s boarding house and tried to find two glasses of coffee. After they had their coffee, they managed to back to the young’s boarding house. And they spent the rest of the day by keep talking and communicate each other. Until this time, the younger one never change his feeling to the older, he loved him in the name of friendship. And it was happened again in this day that they were sleeping about at 3. 00 Am

Early in the morning, the younger was surprised, because the older wasn’t there. Actually, the older had told him that he would like to go somewhere by foot. Suddenly, the younger got his phone rang.

“Hey! Have you get up already?” somebody spoken on the phone

“Yes I do”, said the other

“Well, now I’ve managed my walks to Tahu Palasari Restaurant…”

“What??!!”

“Yes, and if you don’t get here in 5 minutes, I’ll back to Jakarta with the next bus”

CLICK…

The phone was dropped…

Then the young went up in hurry after only wash his face. And after he found his older, they got into that restaurant and had their breakfast. They were eating with no much conversation because it was so noisy with lots of vehicles pass on the road in front of the restaurant. After they had their breakfast, they take a different route they never took before. They stopped around a dried rice field and the older said:

“Let’s have some cigarettes there!”

“It’ll be nice” he continued.

And they smoked their cigarettes while talked and gazed at the sky.

“It’s rather cloud”, the younger was thought.

The weather was really unpredictable at that time. Suddenly, the wind blew so fast and brings a dark cloud more and more. And it began to rain.

“We better hurry!” said the young one.

They ran out as fast as they can, even the younger sometime looked back and worried with the older. But the older was fine, and he is just worried too much.

In the middle of the night, they began to start a serious conversation. The younger never knew that last phenomena that he saw before was a sign. Maybe it’s the worst part of the story. And the older one told him a story, a saddest story he would ever heard. About 30 years ago in Germany, there were two younger from two different city met inside a bar. They introduced each other and moved to the other bar because it was so crowded. One of them is from Erkheim, and the other one was from somewhere far – far – away and he was studying in Köln. Over time, they iinvolved in a love story between two teenagers.

“There’s no such thing as eternal love, love that last forever

Eventually, you’ll have to say goodbye.

So, once you let it go, you look for something similar.

Put the lid on the past and move on.

Are you positive enough for that?

Will you let yourself be stuck in the past either?

So instead, simply don’t think anything at all.”

And the older one told the young: “by the time that’s bon voyage letter came to me… I shouted as load as I can”

His hand was trembling when he told the young the whole of the story while holding a cigarette.

“It felt like a part of my life was died. And I opened my window… it was winter …”

“When I opened the window, winter wind blew onto my face, and I was thinking to die, jumping trough the window of room number 1110” he started to shed his tears. And it was no longer restrained.

“Me and my soul was fought in that time”, he continued his story

The younger felt like he was got into a very dark and cold world of a sad man who standing behind the window and trying to suicide and it was horrible…

Tired from sitting down more than one hour telling a handful memory of his life, the older lay down and gazed toward the ceiling, and his eyes became wet…

“I felt like another part of my has died since a few years ago”

And now the man who lived in the room 1110 was sitting beside a young man and told his stories.

The older continued his story …

The younger sat beside him, impatiently waiting for what he was going to say.

“I’ve been thinking about death once more time…” he continued.

The death of his brother has taken another part of his soul. Perhaps he wanted to accompany his brother in the long journey to nowhere.

The younger forced him to get what the older meant and try to be a good listener, especially when something in his story seemed difficult to follow either due to the long horizontal distance between them.

On the distance that separated their worlds.

Both of them, the old one even the young…. They cried in pain….

The younger was being able to enter the situation, emotion, and even the description of each with heart. That’s why he cried worse than the older. He felt that he was there, standing and take a distance with the situation but he was there, he saw, he heard, and he felt….

No more than 3 hours they slept… and unwittingly they cried again once more time.

Finally, the older had to leaves… because plenty of work waiting for him…

They still have a short of time to spend. They went down and had a breakfast somewhere.

The older has ready to go and the young just accompanied him until the front door.

If only he was able to say

Don’t go ….

Stay with me ….

And don’t leave me behind ….

Even more tears shed from his eyes, but he knew that he must let him go.

And he went to the campus brought a handful of sadness in his heart.

Several minutes later, came a message from the older one for him:

“Hi there… now I was inside the Medal Sekarwangi bus and will leave in several minutes…”

Why someone who is much older had to say

“MY BUS IS LEAVING YOU NOW”

He know it hurts

For a much younger to hear

I had to find the reason …

Thought the younger …

And he saw them again sitting on the rice field threatened by the hanging dark cloud
